This airport serves two major scenic places of interest in this area, namely Huanglong, away, and Jiuzhaigou, away. It is above sea level and is the third highest airport in China (after Qamdo and Lhasa). Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport is about (40 minutes' flight) from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, an aviation hub of Southwest China. It started flights on September 28, 2003, and has one runway of length and width . Due to the elevation of , some passengers may experience symptoms of altitude sickness. This should be taken into consideration when planning to fly into or out of Jiuzhai Huanglong airport.
